Native Plant and Seed Contract Growers
Since 1985 we have harvested and reproduced hundreds of rangeland native plants and seeds in our greenhouse and in our 180 acres of production beds near Calgary, Alberta. Contract growing is now our main form of providing large quantities live plant material. We can provide almost any type of plant in a timely and cost effective manner. Grasses, Shrubs, Forbs.

Native Seed Production
ESRS wholesales large volumes of native seed to commercial distributors. Our specialization is in providing an economic product and large volume sales has been our specialization for the past number of years.

We provide small scale production and research and development of new species by contract for a number of organizations and will provide specialized production of native plant materials under contract.

Native Bedding Plants
ESRS has been growing ornamental grasses and Alberta wildflower species for years and can provide dozens of native plants that make excellent perennial bedding plants. ESRS contract grows these species for large scale commercial sales. We can also entertain orders from garden centres and horticultural societies who order a minimum of 100 plants.

Providing Information and Contacts for Planting
It has been our experience that many people using native plants do not have information on the methods of planting or access to equipment for planting. ESRS has accumulated a list of companies that plant live plant materials as well as information on seeding equipment and techniques for planting seed.

Custom Orders
The size of plant desired will require that you allow 4 - 6 months of growing time. It is also important to book space ahead for large orders, especially if collections of seed or live plant materials must occur. Native bedding plants and other specialized native plant materials can be grown by ESRS as custom orders, but we can only entertain large orders.

Rangeland Plant Communities can be very delicate
Many rangeland plant communities contain species that are very slow to reproduce. When you see a healthy rangeland ecosystem it has often taken hundreds of years to reach that state. Therefore, after a major disturbance such as road construction, oil exploration or pipeline construction successful recovery can be a major challenge.

Plug Production
Re-introducing native species into a severely disturbed ecosystem can often prove to be very difficult. After many years of reclamation management, seed production and scientific experimentation we have proved that significant benefits can be obtained using plugs rather than seeds. Therefore, plugs form a significant part of our production. We identify on this website which species we recommend you purchase as plugs.
