Eastern Slopes Rangeland Seeds Ltd, located near Calgary, Alberta, have
been reclamation consultants to governments and industry since 1980.
These environmental assessments are essential to the success of reclamation
projects and well the being of crown leases.
Once the inventory has been completed ESRS can provide comprehensive
plans for managing wildlife, livestock, rare species, weeds and can
include creating comprehensive management strategies in order to allow
for a successful project. We are careful to take into account the project
goals in order to make sure those goals are encompassed in any recommendations
that we make.
These assessments encompass the same techniques listed in the rangeland
inventory section but are more focused on conservation needs as well
as industrial development. We have a standard package of assessment
tools that give comprehensive information on rare and weedy species,
plant community health and composition and the management history of
the site. This information can be utilized for wildlife habitat enhancement,
oil and gas management planning and restoration efforts in order to
protect and rehabilitate native ecosystems. See rangeland Inventory
for more information or contact ESRS
ESRS provides comprehensive environmental pre-site assessments for restoration
and reclamation projects. This is critical to determine what weeds if
any will become problematic, if rare species will be impacted, what
the environmental and climatic conditions of a site are. It is also
critical to understand the species composition of the surrounding site
in order to achieve proper restoration.
It is also important to review vegetation inventories to determine
if the quality of site management strategies will negatively impact
the successfully restoration of the site.
Understanding the cost of management decisions is important and ESRS
can give estimated costs of different management strategies as well
as the cost due to loss of production, species diversity and assess
the best course of action both economically and environmentally.
When reclamation and restoration is necessary especially in the oil
and gas industry as well as in other large industrial developments such
as mines ESRS can provide comprehensive management strategies and monitoring
programs to assess the success of restoration. At the same time these
programs are built to adapt to the results of the monitoring program.
We will suggest changes to management as monitoring suggests and can
produce comprehensive results on the success of the project upon completion
As it is important to be able to assess scientifically whether management
is actually having an effect or if a treatment is working ESRS has the
ability to run statistical analysis to determine success as well as
to give confidence to the findings.
